I’ve been writing on Medium for the past one and a half years.
Correction: I’ve been struggling to write on Medium for the past one and a half years.
Like many people here, we first joined because of this platform’s allure: it’s a safe and encouraging space to freely write whatever you wish.
And of course, if we do really well, we could get paid, too.
Well, that was the initial attraction anyway.
It soon became quite obvious to me that I wasn’t a natural at writing captivating articles — so even though I wrote often enough, none of my articles really took off in terms of views or engagement.
I quickly fell into a sluggish routine: I would write articles just for the hell of it, pray that they would get published, and if they did not, well, I just moved on.
Not great, Mark, not great at all.
So how did this uninspired individual here finally get some traction in his content — and get paid at the same time?
Disclaimer: compared to many professional writers here on Medium, my payday is definitely nowhere close to even some of their worst days.
So if you want to really make it big, this may not be the right read for you.
But, I think my story can be a little more relatable — simply because I’m a complete amateur writer, who, like most people here, wants to just write and hopefully one day, get a hit article or two.
