Leveraging three decades of experience, Dr. Afoaku is a proven leader in the field of education. Since 2021, she has served as a scholarship and engagement consultant for Indiana University Bloomington, a role in which she assists with academic advising and awarding scholarships to underrepresented student populations. She has otherwise operated as a consultant for various other high schools and colleges since 2008. To wit, Dr. Afoaku has notably worked alongside institutions such as Indiana State University and the University of Colorado. Outside of her primary professional duties, she also remains active as a civic-minded citizen, having regularly participated as a leader in her community, promoting diversity, inclusion and equity since the onset of her career in 1994.

Before beginning her career, Dr. Afoaku pursued a formal education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history at Washington State University in 1990. She subsequently continued her studies, achieving a Master of Arts in history at the University of Northern Colorado in 2001 and a PhD in educational leadership at Indiana State University in 2015. In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Afoaku is also well-regarded for her own scholarly output, having authored several articles and her 2015 book, “African-Born Female Professionals in American Higher Education.” To commemorate her accomplishments in the field, she has been honored with numerous accolades, including an Award of Appreciation from the African Students’ Association of Indiana University Bloomington in 2006. In light of her fulfilling career, Dr. Afoaku has largely attributed her success to the support of her family and community.
