Paul Bardack, JD, Executive Director of the Maryland Small Business Development Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in economic development.
Since 2018, Mr. Bardack has excelled as the executive director of the Maryland Small Business Development Center in College Park, Maryland. In this capacity, he implements policy for the state’s small business agencies and manages dozens of staff members located across Maryland. He regularly interacts with elected and appointed government officials, leaders of private industry, members of academia, trade associations and think tanks. Mr. Bardack functions as the state secretary of small businesses.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Bardack garnered experience as a senior education and training solutions architect with the Science Applications International Corporation Inc., or SAIC, from 2014 to 2018. From 2013 to 2014, he was a candidate in the Democratic primary for the Maryland House of Delegates in Montgomery County, Maryland. Mr. Bardack was a government marketing consultant from 2011 to 2013, the director of George Mason University’s Center for Online Workforce Development from 2009 to 2011 and deputy director of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative from 2008 to 2009. With decades of professional experience to his credit, he began his career in the law, working as a law clerk for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 1978 to 1979, as legislative counsel to U.S. Congressman Bob Garcia from 1979 to 1981 and as an attorney with Barrett Smith Schapiro Simon & Armstrong from 1981 to 1983.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Bardack attended Yale University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1975. He went on to graduate from the American University Law School with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1978. Following the completion of his degrees, he was admitted to practice by the District of Columbia Bar. Mr. Bardack boasts expertise in economic development and policymaking.
For his professional accomplishments, Mr. Bardack was recognized with an Outstanding Staff of the Year Award from the University of Maryland in 2022. He attributes his success to the support of his wife, Esther. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, kayaking, competitive running, bicycling, baseball, traveling, cooking, reading, and playing instruments.
